Dear Neighbor – I want your opinion on a very serious matter, one on which I respect that there are a good deal of different opinions in our district. The issue of reproductive choice. This summer will mark the second anniversary of the Dobbs decision that took away women’s right to an abortion. Our country is in a dangerous place, and the attacks on women’s reproductive care haven’t stopped there.Their latest attack? IVF – an absolutely critical reproductive care technology that has helped so many families become whole. Stop and think about families you know who have been helped by IVF. Now imagine a world without those precious children in it. I don’t want to.The ultimate stated goal of Republican leadership is granting personhood rights to fertilized eggs. No matter what you believe about when life begins, allowing the government to police a fertilized egg the same way it would police a living breathing human is not only untenable, it’s dangerous–putting lives at risk and preventing so many families from experiencing the joy of parenthood through IVF.These are the facts. More than 125 of my Republican colleagues are cosponsors of a bill that would recognize a fetal right to personhood, with no exception to allow IVF to continue. And just recently, efforts to protect IVF have also been stopped by Republicans. As the first woman and mother to represent West Michigan in Congress, I will continue to support and empower women and their family planning decisions. But I recognize that not all of our constituents agree on this issue, and I want to hear from YOU:

Dear Neighbor –

I want your opinion on a very serious matter, one on which I respect that there are a good deal of different opinions in our district. The issue of reproductive choice.

This summer will mark the second anniversary of the Dobbs decision that took away women’s right to an abortion. Our country is in a dangerous place, and the attacks on women’s reproductive care haven’t stopped there.

Their latest attack? IVF – an absolutely critical reproductive care technology that has helped so many families become whole.

Stop and think about families you know who have been helped by IVF. Now imagine a world without those precious children in it. I don’t want to.

The ultimate stated goal of Republican leadership is granting personhood rights to fertilized eggs. No matter what you believe about when life begins, allowing the government to police a fertilized egg the same way it would police a living breathing human is not only untenable, it’s dangerous–putting lives at risk and preventing so many families from experiencing the joy of parenthood through IVF.

These are the facts.
